- Places To TourThere are lots of cool places to tour right around town. Don't miss the tour of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, advanced reservations required so call 926-2204. Also, the Gamble Gardens, located at 1431 Waverly Street, are a great escape. The tours are self-guided and they offer classes and have events. A beautiful place for a wedding as well. Sunset Magazine offers a tour of its facility and gardens at 80 Willow Road in Menlo Park. Don't miss the lively oak named 'the Old Man' during your free self-guided tour of the gardens. - TheaterOh, wow, there is a lot of Theater around here for every age. Try to see a performance of the following groups and you won't be disappointed. The Menlo Player's Guild offers a fun Summer Shakespeare Festival and shows for kids. Call 322-3261. Also for kids is the oldest children's theater in America, the Palo Alto Children's Theater . Call 463-4970 for tickets. For the adults, in addition to all that Stanford offers, check out TheatreWorks , the Peninsula's premiere, fully professional theater company. Call 463-1950 for tickets.
- WineriesYou don't have to go to Napa for a vineyard tour or wine tasting. Visit Chaine d'Or Vineyard, 140 Sunrise Drive in Woodside. This tiny winery grows all of its own grapes to produce 500 cases a year. Call 851-8977 for an appointment. Cronin Vineyards , 11 Old La Honda Road, produces small amounts of excellent chardonnay, cabernet, sauvignon, merlot and pinot noir. Four open houses a year: call for an appointment. 851-1452. Thomas Fogarty Winery and Vineyard, 19501 Skyline Blvd., offers tastings and tours year round on a drop-in basis. Great for corporate events and weddings. Call 851-6777 or check. - Concert SeriesWe are lucky to have a bounty of talented musicians performing right out our back door all year long. Here are the favorite picks for an evening of music. From September to June, visit the redwood grove at the Valley Presbyterian Church at 945 Portola Road to hear Music in the Redwoods. The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, 4000 Middlefield in Palo Alto features the award-winning youth orchestra which has been performing for more than 35 years. The season runs from Sept.-June.
